What is turbidity?

Turbidity is the amount of sediment in the water. [1] The way you measure the turbidity in the water is by lowering a secchi disk into it and measureing how deep it goes untill you can not see the pattern at the end of the secchi disk any more. [2]

Turbidity is considered as a good measure of the quality of water. There is many things in the cloudiness of the water. Some are:

- "sediments from erosion"

- "Algae growth"

- "waste discharge"

- "Phytoplankton"

- "Resuspended sediments ( often stired up by bottom feeders.)" [3]

With all of these factors that can make the water dirty or cloudy it is hard to keep the water clean. [4]

Turbitity is the amount of sediment that is in a body or "group" of water that can make it hard for the fish and other aquatic animals to live there. [5]

From my observation this is a picture of a glass of water representing the turbidity that goes on in bodies of water in nature [6]
